The Legend
​
The name "Americano" has been shortened over time from "Cafe Americano“ which was popularized by Italian Baristas during World War II. The American troops stationed in Italy at the time wanted to drink coffee but found the "Italian Espresso" the Italians called "Cafe" much too strong for them. Therefore, they would pour hot water to dilute it to replicate the more familiar filter coffee from home. This was the time "Cafe Americano" was born. The Italians coining the term "Cafe Americano", literally meaning "American Coffee" and offering that whenever the Americans would ask for coffee. Later back home this type of coffee became very popular in the United States.
